The following is a press release for my book Service and Sacrifice. Feel free to print it out.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rebecca Baxter of Santa Rosa, CA has published her first book entitled Service and Sacrifice. The book was published by Publish America and released on September 2004.

Service and Sacrifice is a fictional novel about the jobs and lives of paramedics, fire fighters, police officers, doctors and nurses in Baltimore, Maryland. Their jobs are a remarkable campaign of bravery and risk under routine conditions, but when a natural disaster strikes Baltimore their jobs call for them to put their skills to the test and their lives on the line. These emergency workers stand ready to selflessly save the lives of strangers. They don't do it for the money or the glory, they do it out of a sense of duty. As the city of Baltimore enters a time of need, emergency workers stand together as comrades and put their lives on hold to help others. They are doing their jobs.

The book has been reviewed by two emergency response professionals who had this to say:

Paula Frederick, paramedic and registered nurse: "A very realistic book. You have a good sense of immediacy and being 'RIGHT THERE' and I liked reading it - it propelled me through with pictures in my head of this scene and that."

Michael Gibson, wild land fire fighter and freelance writer: "Service and Sacrifice is an action-rich and lifelike depiction of apocalyptic disaster, dead-on in its portrayal of the organizational infrastructure of America's emergency response agencies and the everyday lives of its personnel. Diverse and original characters quite endemic to these dangerous professions spring into action as nature unleashes its rage on Baltimore, Maryland. Baxter paints a real-world picture of the heroic efforts, humanitarianism, low pay, long hours, and the tireless, tedious, and sometimes thankless tasks of America's police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, and emergency room personnel. This book is a literary monument to the timeless American heroism and Classic American bravery of our emergency response professionals."

Ms. Baxter spent years researching the fields in the book to make them as accurate as possible. She received help from many experts in the fields of emergency response to assist in the writing of the novel.
